Acne and acne scarring
Active acne and acne scarring are two problems in sequence rather than one problem. Treating scarring while breakouts are still active tends to create more scarring, so the order matters more than which treatment you choose.

Her signature treatment, exclusive to RIN. Three Candela technologies combined in one customized session.

Active breakouts are settled first. Calming inflammation and controlling oil reduces how much new scarring forms, and a scar that never forms costs nothing to treat. Any practice that sells you resurfacing while your skin is still breaking out is selling you the second appointment before the first one.
Scarring is treated once things have calmed down. Different scars respond to different things. Shallow and rolling scars respond well to resurfacing and microneedling. Deeper, sharper scars need more, and some do not respond well to anything offered here, in which case you will be told that.
Marks left behind after a breakout are often pigment rather than scarring. They are flat, they are more common in deeper skin tones, and they fade on their own over months. They are treated differently from a scar, and mistaking one for the other leads to the wrong treatment.
If your acne is persistent, painful or cystic, that is a dermatology conversation before an aesthetic one. Treating the surface while the cause goes untreated is money spent on something that keeps returning.

Questions
Can I treat my scarring now, while I still break out?
It is usually the wrong order. Treating scars in skin that is still inflamed tends to leave more marks than it removes. Getting the breakouts settled first is slower and gives a better result.
Are the dark marks scars?
Often not. A flat brown or gray mark where a spot used to be is pigment, not scarring, and it fades over months. A scar has texture, a dent or a raised edge. They look similar and they need different treatment.
Will the scarring go completely?
Improved, usually. Gone, rarely. Anyone promising to erase acne scarring is describing something other than what will happen, and the honest version of this conversation is about how much better rather than whether perfect.
