Your own blood is drawn and processed into a gel that can be placed much like filler. Because it comes from you, it suits areas where conventional filler is harder to use well, the under-eye in particular.

It does two things at once: it adds a little volume, and the growth factors improve the quality of the skin over it.

What it helps with

  • Hollowing and shadowing under the eyes
  • Thin, crepey skin where filler would show
  • Laugh lines and early cheek flattening
  • Overall skin quality in the area treated

Who it's for

  • Anyone wanting the under-eye treated cautiously
  • Patients who prefer something derived from their own blood
  • Anyone whose skin quality is as much the issue as the volume

The under-eye is the least forgiving area on the face and not everyone is a candidate. Puffiness, fluid retention and certain anatomy all make it a poor idea, and Jyl will tell you if that is you.

What to expect

  1. Consultation

Jyl assesses whether the under-eye shadow is hollowing, pigment, or puffiness, because only one of those responds to this.

  2. The appointment

Blood draw, processing, then placement. Plan on about an hour.

  3. The first week

Swelling and bruising are more likely here than elsewhere. The under-eye bruises easily.

  4. The series

Usually two sessions a few weeks apart, with the result improving between them.

Before your visit

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment.
  • Stop fish oil, vitamin E, ibuprofen and other blood thinners for three days beforehand if your doctor says it is safe to pause them.
  • Come with clean skin.
  • Let Jyl know if you have a dental appointment or any vaccination booked within two weeks either side.

After your treatment

Today

  • Leave the scalp alone for the rest of today.
  • No washing, no hats, no products.
  • Skip exercise, saunas and anything that raises your heart rate until tomorrow.
  • Tenderness and small bumps where the injections went in are normal and settle within a day.
  • Avoid alcohol tonight.
  • Call the practice if you have increasing pain, spreading redness, or any discharge from an injection site.

How Jyl approaches this

Jyl is more conservative under the eyes than anywhere else on the face, because it is the area where overcorrection is most visible and hardest to fix. She would rather do too little and review.

Questions

How is this different from filler?

It is made from your own blood rather than hyaluronic acid, and it improves skin quality as well as adding a little volume. It is also softer, which is why it suits the under-eye.

How long does it last?

NEEDS APPROVAL: confirm the range Jyl quotes. It does not last as long as hyaluronic acid filler.

Will I bruise?

Possibly, and more so under the eyes than elsewhere. Leave two weeks before anything you want to look your best for.

How many sessions?

Usually two, a few weeks apart. Jyl confirms at consultation.
